art : heartbeat

installation | march 2010

Heartbeat is an interactive light sculpture made from 151 incandescent light bulbs, each hanging individually from the ceiling. The installation reacts to the heartbeat of individuals who are connected to the system and pulses with their energy. Dancers will perform underneath the sculpture with their heart rate controlling the speed, intensity, and size of the pulsing bulbs above. The audience is also able to control the installation with their own heart rate through the use of a finger clip monitor on an adjacent wall.
