art : cellular collaboration #1
installation | january 2007
In this installation, I give the viewers the ability to contribute to a large-scale digital painting using the ubiquitous mobile phone. During the past few months I have been exploring various ways to integrate cellular phone technology into interactive art. I see this installation as a large contemporary art canvas, with a virtually unlimited number of contributors.
In simple terms, this installation consists of a blank video screen. The viewers can add shapes and lines to the screen using text messaging on their phones. For example, to add a red square in the lower right corner someone would text the message "square large red 700 50".
